Types of WMS Integrations (and Which Ones You Actually Need)

A warehouse management system is only as useful as the systems it talks to. The right WMS integrations mean orders flow in, tracking flows back, and inventory stays accurate everywhere — without anyone rekeying data. Here are the integration types that matter and when you need each.

1. Sales channels & marketplaces

These pull orders into your WMS from wherever customers buy — Shopify, Amazon, Walmart, BigCommerce, eBay, and dozens more. A good integration also pushes inventory levels back out, so you don't oversell the same unit on two channels. If you sell in more than one place, this is the first integration to get right.

2. Shipping carriers & rate shopping

Carrier integrations (UPS, FedEx, USPS, and aggregators like EasyPost or Shippo) generate labels and, crucially, enable live rate shopping — automatically comparing carrier rates at pack time to pick the cheapest compliant option. Over thousands of shipments, that's real margin.

3. Accounting & ERP

Connecting to accounting tools like QuickBooks keeps invoices, costs, and — for 3PLs — customer billing in sync without double entry. This is where a lot of manual finance work quietly disappears.

4. EDI & retail compliance

If you ship to big-box retailers, EDI integrations handle the structured documents (purchase orders, ASNs, invoices) and labeling those partners require. Getting this wrong means chargebacks; getting it right opens retail channels.

How to choose

Don't integrate everything on day one. Map your actual order flow: where do orders originate, how do they ship, and where does the money get recorded? Connect those three first. Teamship connects to 340+ integrations across all of these categories, so the stack you need is usually already built.
